Densha Otoko – Episode 08

Your personal bedroom. That most personal and intimate of spaces. It is the place where one comes home every tosleep, cry and do other personal things. We turn into our personal fortress of solitude, not unlike Superman’s.  It defines who we are.

Telling another person that you like him or her. The thing that we most dread. It can turn our life upside down. It can bring us a period of happiness and sadness.

Though it maybe just a fictional story, here’s a pretty good example.

Here’s my room. May not be like Densha’s but it has the potential to be, if I had the cabinets and additional space.

Sometimes we don’t even need to say anything, what people see and feel about us is all they need to know.

It’s amazing how you can speak right to my heart
Without saying a word you can light up the dark
Try as I may I could never explain
What I hear when you don’t say a thing

The smile on your face lets me know that you need me
There’s a truth in your eyes sayin’ you’ll never leave me
The touch of your hand says you’ll catch me if ever I fall
You say it best when you say nothing at all

All day long I can hear people talking out loud
But when you hold me near, you drown out the crowd
Old Mr. Webster could never define
What’s being said between your heart and mine

The smile on your face lets me know that you need me
There’s a truth in your eyes sayin’ you’ll never leave me
The touch of your hand says you’ll catch me if ever I fall
You say it best when you say nothing at all

The smile on your face lets me know that you need me
There’s a truth in your eyes sayin’ you’ll never leave me
The touch of your hand says you’ll catch me if ever I fall
You say it best when you say nothing at all

Propaganda

Propaganda. The one thing that organizations and governments use to persuade people to their views. I am sure most of our exposure to propaganda would those used in wartime, most notably World War Two. Even though the WW2 has been over for more than sixty years, I would still consider that period to be a good study.

On both sides of the Atlantic, government departments churned out film after film, paper after paper, radio show after radio. Both for the consumption of their people and sometimes, their enemy, in order to indoctrinate their own people and to persuade their opponents.

Perhaps on e of the the most telling of the propaganda machine in the United States at that time would be Walt Disney’s contribution to effort. These are some of the cartoons he made for the government.

And to end of, here is video from the 1950′s. Even though it’s old, many of the theories espoused in the video still hold true today.

Perhaps the greatest orator in all of modern history.

The man I am about to put forth in my opinion may be a very controversial one. People all remember as the man who orchestrated the mass genocide of six million Jews in Europe and engulfed the world in a war that lasted six years.

This man is Adolf Hitler.

For one, he was remembered a fiery orator who used bombastic words to ignite the crowd, letting them hear what they wanted hear, like slamming the Treaty of  Versailles for it’s unfair treatment towards a defeated Germany. This was all honed by him giving speeches to his fellow soldiers in the 1920s and later on he rehearsed in front of mirrors and practiced using his emotions to accompany his words.

One of his most memorable speeches during this reign was made in the 1934 Nuremburg Rally. Embedded is a clip from the Triumph of Will.

Disclaimer: This post is NOT a endorsement of Hitler’s politcal view but merely as an opinion of his ability as a orator.
